All issues have been fixed and the AI assistant is ready for deployment.

Main Website Changes

1. Fixed AI Assistant Button (_includes/footer/ai-assistant-simple.html)

• ✅ Fixed “openAIChat is not defined” error by making functions global
• ✅ Restored the cool floating animation
• ✅ Animation pauses on hover for better clickability
• ✅ Button correctly opens chat window with Hugging Face assistant

2. Fixed CORS Issues (_includes/head/custom.html)

• ✅ Removed manifest link that was causing CORS errors
• ✅ Prevents cross-origin resource errors

3. Footer Configuration (_includes/footer/custom.html)

• ✅ Uses the simplified AI assistant implementation

David Research Assistant Submodule Changes

1. Fixed Path Issues (app.py)

• ✅ Removed hardcoded absolute paths
• ✅ Added fallback to hardcoded paper database for Hugging Face deployment
• ✅ System now works both locally (with dynamic loading) and on Hugging Face (with hardcoded data)

2. Enhanced AI with Verification System

• ✅ Three-layer coauthor verification system
• ✅ Dynamic paper loading from markdown files (when available)
• ✅ Judge agent for response verification
• ✅ Uses Gemini 2.5 Flash for both main and judge agents

3. Updated Dependencies (requirements.txt)

• ✅ Added PyYAML for parsing markdown front matter

3. The Hugging Face Space will automatically update

Testing

• Button: Check that it floats and opens chat on click
• AI: Ask about papers and verify coauthors are correctly mentioned
• Console: Should show no errors
